Here’s something that is easy to miss: in the Frequara model, what you consciously want is only part of the picture. Your nervous system state matters too. You can recite affirmations until you’re hoarse, visualise until your eyes blur, and set intentions with crystal clarity, but if your body is stuck in survival mode, that state colours how you think, act and relate. In Frequara terms, your body’s state is your true broadcast, and it tends to speak louder than a conscious wish.

This is where many manifestation practices fall short. They ignore the body. In the Frequara model, your nervous system is the engine of what we call your frequency broadcast, and learning to regulate it comes before the rest of the work.

The Three States: Understanding Polyvagal Theory

Three states of nervous system regulation rendered as wave patterns
The three nervous system states described by polyvagal theory: shutdown, sympathetic and ventral vagal.

Dr Stephen Porges’ polyvagal theory proposes that the autonomic nervous system has three broad response states, each linked with different patterns of behaviour and connection. Other researchers dispute parts of the theory, so it is best treated as a model rather than proven fact. As a map, though, noticing which state you’re in, and why, is a useful place to start. In the Frequara framework, each state also has its own broadcast, which is our metaphor, not a physical frequency.

Ventral Vagal: The Frequency of Safety & Connection (Green Zone)

In polyvagal theory, this is the state of safety and social connection, and in the Frequara model it is your best broadcast state. When you feel safe, your body is resourced and settled, and your attention can open outward. In this state:

In the Frequara model, this is the state that creation works best from. When you’re genuinely resourced and connected, you tend to notice more opportunities and act on them. People find you easier to trust. Your ideas flow more easily. Your body signals safety, and the people around you often respond in kind.

The problem: many people spend a lot of their time in the other two states, and modern life doesn’t make it easier.

Sympathetic: The Frequency of Fight/Flight (Yellow Zone)

When your body detects threat (real or perceived), your sympathetic nervous system activates. Your body mobilises for defence. This is adaptive in short bursts; it is part of how our ancestors survived danger. But staying activated for long stretches takes a toll, and it colours your broadcast:

In sympathetic activation, you tend to come across as anxious, urgent and scattered. People may sense your tension and pull back. Opportunities are easier to miss. You can be trying to create abundance while your body is signalling scarcity and threat. In the Frequara model, mixed signals tend to bring mixed results.

Dorsal Vagal: The Frequency of Shutdown (Red Zone)

When a threat feels like too much, polyvagal theory describes a shift into dorsal vagal shutdown. People describe this state as numbness, collapse or feeling far away from themselves, and it can overlap with experiences such as dissociation or low mood. In Frequara terms, it’s the frequency of complete contraction:

In a shutdown state, it is common to feel unworthy, hopeless or invisible. Very little feels possible, because the body has gone into conservation mode. Shutdown can be linked with past trauma, and if that sounds familiar, working with a qualified professional is the safest place to start.

In the Frequara model, your nervous system state is your true broadcast. It shapes how you show up and how others meet you.

Why So Many of Us Feel Dysregulated

Here’s what’s important to understand: stress and overwhelm are common in modern life. Many people move back and forth between sympathetic activation (stress, urgency, feeling on edge) and shutdown (numbness, flatness, disconnection). They may spend less time in the settled, connected state that, in the Frequara model, a coherent broadcast comes from.

This means many people are trying to manifest, create, and attract while their body is signalling threat. They’re trying to broadcast love while their nervous system is braced for danger. Trying to broadcast abundance while their system is running on scarcity. The internal conflict can feel constant.

Your body keeps its own record of what feels safe. And if that record says “I’m not safe, I’m under threat, I don’t belong,” positive thinking on its own is unlikely to override it.

Why You Can’t Manifest From Dysregulation

In the Frequara model, manifestation is frequency matching: a metaphor for how your inner state and your actions line up with what you want. It is not quantum physics, and nothing in physics shows that a “quantum field” reads your intentions. If your conscious intention is “I’m worthy of abundance” but your body is in survival mode signalling “I’m not safe,” you’re carrying an internal contradiction, and that contradiction shows up in what you do.

Here’s what that contradiction can look like in practice:

The Incoherence: Your mind says abundance is coming. Your body says threat is present. In Frequara terms, the contradiction garbles your broadcast: you say one thing while your body language, choices and energy say another.

The Magnetism Mismatch: In the Frequara model, what you draw toward you follows resonance, not resistance. When your nervous system is dysregulated, your actions tend to follow your body’s default state rather than your conscious desires, and that default is often scarcity, threat, or shutdown.

The Self-Sabotage Loop: Even when opportunities appear, a body that doesn’t feel safe can pull back from them. You might get the job and find yourself creating conflict. You might find love and create distance. If a deep part of you believes “I’m not worthy,” it can quietly work to prove that belief true.

This is why, in the Frequara framework, regulation comes before manifestation, and why therapy is worth considering if old wounds keep surfacing. Not because you need to be perfect, but because you need to be coherent. Your nervous system and your conscious desires need to be pulling in the same direction.

Vagal Tone: The Measure of Your Regulation Capacity

Vagal tone describes how strongly the vagus nerve, the main nerve of your parasympathetic “brake pedal”, influences your heart and other organs. It is usually estimated through heart rate variability (HRV), which is real and measurable. In research, higher resting HRV is linked with better emotion regulation and quicker recovery from stress, although the relationship is not simple.

In polyvagal terms, the goal isn’t to be in ventral vagal all the time (that’s unrealistic). The goal is to build the capacity to return there more easily when needed, and to spend more time there than in dysregulated states.

Signs often linked with higher vagal tone: Quicker recovery from stress, emotional resilience, good sleep, warm social connections, a sense of safety in your body, creative flow, ability to work with your emotions.

Signs often linked with lower vagal tone: Slow recovery from stress, emotional volatility, sleep disruption, social isolation, ongoing anxiety or low mood, feeling constantly on guard. These can have many causes, so if they persist, talk to a doctor.

Practical Vagal Toning: Exercises to Try

You can practise regulation deliberately. These aren’t visualisations or affirmations; they are simple body-based practices that many people find calming.

Vagal Activation Techniques (In the Moment)

Humming & Vocal Toning: Branches of the vagus nerve supply the throat and voice box, which is one reason humming is a popular regulation practice, though direct evidence that humming stimulates the vagus nerve is limited. Hum for about 60 seconds, a few times a day.

Cold Water Face Immersion: Splash cold water on your face, or hold a cold, damp cloth there for 15 to 20 seconds. Cold water on the face triggers the diving reflex, which slows the heart rate, and some people find it helps them come down from a surge of stress. Skip it if you have a heart condition.

Extended Exhale Breathing: Breathe in for 4 counts and out for 6 to 8 counts. Slow breathing with a longer exhale is linked with higher heart rate variability, and HRV biofeedback built on slow breathing has shown modest benefits for stress and anxiety in studies. Try it for 5 to 10 minutes daily.

Gargling: Gargling is often suggested as a vagus nerve exercise because the throat muscles involved are supplied by the vagus nerve. There is little research on whether it changes vagal tone, so treat it as an easy experiment rather than a proven technique.

Vagal Tone Building (Long-term Practice)

Sustained Exercise: Regular aerobic exercise, such as 30 minutes or more of continuous cardio a few times a week, is linked in research with higher resting heart rate variability. Your body gets practice at meeting physical stress and recovering.

Deliberate Cold Exposure: Some people use regular cold showers, or even cold water on the wrists for 30 seconds, as practice at staying calm while the body is uncomfortable. Research on cold exposure and vagal tone is still limited. Check with a doctor first if you have a heart condition.

Singing or Chanting: Sustained singing combines slow, controlled breathing with long exhales, which is one reason many people find it calming. Try singing for 15 minutes or more a day and notice how your baseline feels over the weeks that follow.

Social Connection: Polyvagal theory puts face-to-face connection with safe people at the centre of feeling safe. This is why time with people who feel safe is part of regulation, not an extra.

Safe & Supported Touch: Massage, hugs, holding hands with someone you trust: many people find touch like this settling, and polyvagal theory treats it as a strong cue of safety. This is not luxury; it’s part of how humans help each other settle.

The Frequency Hierarchy: Which Level Really Determines Your Broadcast?

Here’s how the Frequara model ranks it: your identity > your nervous system state > your conscious thoughts. In this model, your deepest identity beliefs shape your default nervous system state, which shapes your broadcast, which shapes what you create.

If your core belief is “I’m not worthy,” your nervous system may keep returning to a defensive state. If your belief is “I’m safe and capable,” settling tends to come more easily. Your conscious affirmations are downstream: they might influence your state for a while, but on their own they rarely override your identity.

This is why the Frequara framework addresses all three levels: identity work (Being Human), nervous system regulation (the Frequara Correction), and conscious broadcasting (Creation).

Begin: Regulate Your Nervous System, Transform Your Frequency

Some of the most useful manifestation work you can do is unglamorous: regulate your nervous system. Practise the exercises above. Create safety in your body. Spend more time in connection with people who feel safe. In the Frequara model, this is where real frequency work begins.

When your nervous system feels more resourced, your broadcast shifts. People may feel more at ease around you. You’re more likely to notice opportunities and follow through on them. You’re working from coherence instead of from the noise of dysregulation.
